New Print: Stand of Pines, Naval Live Oak Reserve

Stand of Pines, Naval Live Oak Reserve from the Northwest Florida Collection

Located in Gulf Breeze, and today managed by the National Park Service as part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, this area was set aside by John Quincy Adams in 1828 to supply lumber for the construction of America’s naval fleet. The Reserve is a great park, complete with a visitor’s center, picnic areas, and some beautiful nature trails. This stand of pines is a familiar sight to most anyone who has ever been, since it is visible from the parking lot. It is one of the oldest photographs in my portfolio, and once I am still very proud of.
